Why it matters: Norman, Woods and the Asian Tour
Development started in 1988 on an abandoned tin mine flanked by rubber plantations, and Kato routed the Canyon through the old workings rather than flattening them. It opened in 1991 and hosted the Johnnie Walker Classic in 1994 (Greg Norman), 1998 (Tiger Woods, eight back on the final day, beat Ernie Els in a playoff) and 2007 (Anton Haig). The Asian Tour came back in 2021 for the Blue Canyon Phuket Championship.
The club calls the 390-yard 13th on the Canyon "The Tiger Hole". The short par-3 17th across a ravine is in GOLF Magazine's list of the world's 500 best holes. A full re-grassing of the Canyon was completed with the renovated 18 in play from February 2024.
Canyon vs Lakes
Canyon is long, tight off the tee and demands full carries over the canyon edges; a slope of 141 from the black tees is high by any standard. If your handicap is 20 or more, the white (6,330 yd) or red (5,943 yd) tees are the sensible choice.
Lakes is wider but wetter: the club says water is in play on 17 of its 18 holes. The closing par 4, with the canyon splitting the fairway, was named Best Par 4 in Asia by Asian Golf Monthly in 2003. For a first round off the plane or a mixed-ability group, start with the Lakes and save the Canyon for later in the trip.

Getting there
The club is at 165 Moo 1, Thepkasattri Road, Thalang, on the main road between the airport and the west-coast beaches. It is roughly 20 minutes from HKT, which makes it an easy round on an arrival or departure day if your flight times allow. From the Laguna hotels at Bang Tao allow about 25 minutes; from Patong, allow longer because the route crosses the island.
On site there is a restaurant, a spa, a driving range and the 31-room BC Lodge if you want to stay next to the first tee. Dress code is the Thai standard: collared shirt, tailored shorts or trousers, no denim, soft spikes.
When to play
November to April is dry. January averages 35 mm of rain over 4 days and December 80 mm; November is still around 195 mm over 14 days. The May to October monsoon peaks near 325 mm in September, which is when the lower agent rates apply.
Tee off before 8:00 or after 14:00: highs run 31–34 °C all year. The club lists its hours as 8:00 to 17:00, so ask for the earliest slot when booking. In the wet months, aim to finish by 14:00.
